Frequently Asked Questions
You can book your ticket online through ADO International in multiple languages, through the ADO app, or in person at any ADO ticket window. Digital boarding passes are sent by email — no need to print. For the best prices, book in advance: ADO's Compra Anticipada (advance purchase) discounts can save you up to 50% on select routes.
Which terminal does my bus leave from in Mexico City?
Mexico City has several bus terminals, and your departure point depends on your destination. TAPO (east side, Metro San Lázaro) is the main hub for routes heading east and south — including Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, and the Yucatán. Terminal Taxqueña (south side, Metro Taxqueña) serves southern destinations like Cuernavaca, Tepoztlán, and Acapulco. Terminal del Norte (north side, Metro Autobuses del Norte) covers northern routes and some long-distance services. ADO Aeropuerto offers direct departures from Mexico City International Airport to select cities. Always double-check your ticket for the correct terminal before heading out.
How far in advance should I book?
For popular short routes like Mexico City–Puebla or Mexico City–Tepoztlán, you can often show up and buy a ticket for the next departure. For longer routes like Mexico City–Veracruz, Mexico City–Oaxaca, or Mexico City–Zihuatanejo, booking 1–3 days ahead is recommended — especially on weekends, holidays, and during high season (Semana Santa, Christmas, Carnival). Booking early also unlocks the best advance-purchase discounts.
What service levels does ADO offer?
ADO operates several service tiers to match your budget and comfort needs. AU is the most economical option — basic but reliable. ADO First Class is the standard: reclining seats, air conditioning, entertainment, restroom, and USB charging. ADO GL (Gran Lujo) adds wider seats, more legroom, and a complimentary beverage. ADO Platino is the top tier: leather reclining seats, individual entertainment screens, onboard Wi-Fi, a travel kit, and access to the exclusive Platino lounge at select terminals. On routes served by Estrella de Oro (part of the ADO family), you'll find Diamante and Pluss service levels with similar premium amenities.
Can I cancel or change my ticket?
You can cancel or exchange your ticket up to 60 minutes before departure at any ADO ticket office. You must present the original ticket and an official ID matching the ticketholder's name. Refunds are issued as Saldo Max credit, not back to your original payment method. Advance-purchase discounted tickets are more restrictive and generally non-refundable. If you don't know your new travel date, you can request an open ticket for the same route to rebook later.
How much luggage can I bring?
Each passenger can take up to 25 kg of checked baggage free of charge. Your bags are stored in a locked compartment under the bus, and you receive a claim tag to retrieve them upon arrival. You can also carry one carry-on bag at no additional cost. On luxury services like Platino, baggage policies are even more generous with no extra charges for excess luggage.
Do I need an ID to board?
Yes. Carry a valid government-issued photo ID (passport for international travelers, INE for Mexican citizens) that matches the name on your ticket. While ID checks aren't always enforced on domestic routes, it's required for cancellations, exchanges, and occasionally at boarding.
Can I book my ticket in English?
Yes! At ADO International, we offer an ADO booking experience in many different languages, adapting to the needs of travelers, visitors, and passengers from all over the world. Digital boarding passes are sent by email — no need to print.
Are ADO buses safe?
ADO operates modern buses equipped with GPS tracking, professional certified drivers, and safety features including three-point seatbelts on premium services. Routes run primarily on Mexico's well-maintained toll highways (autopistas). It's common to encounter routine police checkpoints on longer routes — just keep your ID handy. ADO is consistently rated as one of the safest bus operators in Mexico, with decades of service since 1939.
Can I travel with children?
Children under 5 years old travel free if sharing a seat with an accompanying adult. Children over 5 require their own ticket. Unaccompanied minors under 18 are generally not permitted without an authorized adult.
What destinations can I reach from Mexico City with ADO?
ADO and its partner lines connect Mexico City to over 80 cities across central, southern, and eastern Mexico. Popular routes include Puebla (~2 hours), Tepoztlán (~1 hour 15 min), Veracruz (~5 hours), Oaxaca (~7 hours), Acapulco (~5 hours), Zihuatanejo (~10 hours), Tuxtepec (~7 hours), Cancún, Mérida, Villahermosa, and many more.
