Travelling by ADO bus with limited mobility: the essentials
ADO coaches are high-floor buses: boarding is by a few steps at the front door, and seats are reached along a narrow aisle. There is no wheelchair space in the cabin. With some planning, many travellers with limited mobility use ADO every day.
Wheelchairs and mobility aids
- Wheelchairs must be folded or dismantled and travel in the luggage hold. They can't be used in the cabin.
- Electric wheelchairs and scooters are subject to ADO's battery rules: check with ADO before you travel.
- Label your chair and keep cushions and small removable parts with you.
Guide dogs and assistance animals
- Guide dogs for blind and visually impaired passengers, and mobility assistance dogs, travel on board with their owner.
- Carry the animal's vaccination certificate.
Before and on the day
- Contact ADO's customer service before travelling to explain your needs.
- Arrive early and tell the ticket office and driver that you need extra time and help boarding.
- Choose a seat near the front of the bus to shorten the walk along the aisle. ADO, GL and Platino buses have a toilet at the back.
- Prefer direct buses: changing buses means extra boarding and bag handling.
- Holders of Mexico's national disability card (Credencial Nacional para Personas con Discapacidad) can get a 10% discount at the ticket office, with a limit of two per bus.
Bus times, fares and onboard features on this page come from the ADO booking flow for Saturday, December 5, 2026, and can change. Discounts, luggage rules and accessibility services are set by ADO and can change too: check the conditions shown when you book, or ask at the ADO ticket office. Entry fees and opening hours are set by each site.
Step-friendly destinations by ADO bus
Flat cities, wide promenades and inclusive beaches:
Campeche
By bus: from Mérida, about 2h 25min, from about US$22
A long, flat seafront promenade (the Malecón) and a compact old town with level streets inside the walls.
Mérida
By bus: from Cancún, about 4h 10min–5h, from about US$42
A flat city at sea level. Paseo de Montejo has wide pavements, and the main square closes to traffic on Sundays.
Cancún
By bus: from Mérida or Playa del Carmen; also direct from the airport
Cancún has inclusive beaches, such as Playa Delfines and Playa Las Perlas, with ramps, adapted toilets and amphibious chairs. Check availability before you go.
Playa del Carmen
By bus: from Cancún, about 45 minutes–1h 45min, from about US$4
A flat, pedestrian Quinta Avenida, and beaches such as Playa Fundadores that have offered inclusive facilities.
Uxmal
By bus: from Mérida, by tour or taxi (about 1h 15min)
INAH has installed ramps at several structures of this Maya city, one of the more accessible major sites.
Valladolid
By bus: from Cancún or Mérida, about 2½–3 hours
A level, compact centre. Some cenotes have steep stairs, so ask before you visit.
Planning tips for ruins, cenotes and beaches
- Ruins: paths are often gravel or uneven stone. Chichén Itzá is mostly flat but large; Uxmal has ramps at several structures.
- Cenotes: many are reached by long, steep stairs. Open cenotes with platforms are easier; ask before you go.
- Beaches: look for playas incluyentes (inclusive beaches) with ramps and amphibious chairs. Hours and availability vary, so check locally.
- Taxis: at terminals, ask for a taxi with space for a folded wheelchair.
