Getting to Cenote Dos Ojos: the essentials

Dos Ojos ("two eyes") is two neighbouring sinkholes joined by an underwater cave, part of the vast Sac Actun cave system. Snorkelers float through clear blue water over stalactites and stalagmites, while divers explore the cavern below. The park entrance is on Highway 307, about 20 km north of Tulum and 50 km south of Playa del Carmen. ADO buses do not stop there, so you change to a local colectivo for the last stretch.

Step 1: take the ADO bus to Tulum (or Playa del Carmen)

  • Cancún (ADO bus station, downtown): 15 buses a day to Tulum from 6:10 AM, about 2h 45min, from US$13. See this route
  • Cancún Airport: 6 buses a day from each terminal to Tulum, from about US$27. See this route
  • Playa del Carmen: over 40 buses a day to Tulum, about 1h 10min, from US$5. See this route
  • Valladolid: 3 buses a day to Tulum, about 1h 45min, from US$13.50. See this route

Step 2: colectivo to the Dos Ojos gate

  • From downtown Tulum, take a white colectivo van heading north towards Playa del Carmen. They leave every few minutes from Avenida Tulum, cost about MXN 40 and take 20–30 minutes. Ask the driver for "Dos Ojos".
  • Coming from Playa del Carmen, you can also take a colectivo south towards Tulum and get off at the gate.
  • A taxi from Tulum costs about MXN 200–400 each way. Agree the price first.

Step 3: from the gate to the cenote

From the highway gate a dirt road leads 1–2 km to the cenote, about 20–30 minutes on foot. There is no shuttle, so wear good shoes and carry water.

Step 4: at the cenote

  • Basic entry costs from about MXN 350 per adult in 2026, cash only. A guided snorkel tour, including the Bat Cave and gear, costs about MXN 700–800.
  • Open about 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Life jackets are required and included.
  • Snorkel sets rent for about MXN 200, small lockers for about MXN 50.

Getting back

Walk back to the highway and flag down a colectivo to Tulum or Playa del Carmen, then catch your ADO bus. See Tulum to Cancún or Tulum to Playa del Carmen.

Bus times, travel times and fares on this page come from the ADO booking flow for Wednesday, December 2, 2026, and can change. Search your travel date for live times. Entry fees, opening hours and taxi fares are set by each site and driver; the figures here are approximate 2026 prices, so confirm them on arrival.

Snorkel, guided tour or cavern dive?

  • Basic entry: swim and snorkel in the open, sunlit "clear zones" at your own pace.
  • Guided snorkel tour: includes gear and the Bat Cave, a dome where bats roost; you can only enter it with a guide.
  • Cavern diving: one of the world's classic cavern dives, for certified divers with a cave guide only.

Good to know

  • Come at 8 AM opening or in the last hours of the afternoon, and on a weekday if you can.
  • No sunscreen, lotion or repellent in the water, not even reef-safe brands. Shower first.
  • Combine it with Gran Cenote, the Tulum ruins or the turtles at Akumal, all near Highway 307.

Foreign visitors to Quintana Roo pay the state Visitax fee (about MXN 285 per person in 2026) once per trip. Pay it only on the official site, visitax.gob.mx.
