Do you want to travel to Puebla from Mexico City?
Travel with us and get the following benefits:

Puebla is Waiting For You
Non-stop ADO service from TAPO (East Terminal) or directly from Mexico City International Airport to Puebla's CAPU terminal or the modern Paseo Destino station — putting you minutes from the UNESCO-listed historic center, its baroque churches, and Mexico's culinary capital. ~2 hours door-to-door.
Taste the Original Mole Poblano Where It Was Born
Puebla is the undisputed culinary capital of Mexico — the birthplace of mole poblano, chiles en nogada, and cemitas. Wander the stalls of Mercado El Parián or sit down at a centuries-old restaurant in the historic center to taste rich, chocolate-laced mole the way it's been made here since colonial times. No recipe, no imitation — this is where it all started, and every bite tastes like it.
Useful information for your trip
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
One-way tickets cost approximately MXN $260 (around $14 USD) for ADO first-class service. The more economical AU buses start a bit lower, while premium services like ADO GL and ADO Platino range higher. Book ahead on the website or the ADO app and you can save up to 50% — on this route, advance-purchase deals can bring tickets down to as little as MXN $160.
How long is the bus from Mexico City to Puebla?
The trip takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours on a direct ADO service. The route runs southeast on the MEX-150D Autopista, crossing between the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl — on a clear day, the snow-capped peaks on either side of the highway are a stunning sight you won't get from a plane.
What time do buses from Mexico City to Puebla leave?
ADO and its partner lines offer over 200 daily departures to Puebla — roughly every 15–30 minutes from early morning to midnight. You can depart from TAPO (the main eastern terminal) or directly from Mexico City International Airport via ADO Aeropuerto — ideal if you're connecting from a flight and want to skip the city entirely. With departures this frequent, you can practically show up and go.
Which terminal does the bus leave from in Mexico City?
You have two convenient departure options. TAPO (Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente) is the primary hub for Puebla routes — it's on the east side of the city, connected directly to Metro San Lázaro (Line 1). ADO Aeropuerto runs services directly from Mexico City International Airport (Terminal 1), perfect for travelers arriving by air who want to head straight to Puebla without entering the city. Always double-check your ticket for the correct terminal.
Where does the bus arrive in Puebla?
You can arrive at CAPU (Central de Autobuses de Puebla), the main terminal located north of the city center, or at Paseo Destino, a newer, smaller terminal south of the center that's often more convenient for reaching the historic Zócalo. Choose the terminal closest to your hotel when booking — both show up as separate options on the ADO website. From either terminal, a taxi or ride-hailing app to the centro histórico takes about 15 minutes.
Can I cancel or change my ADO bus ticket?
You can cancel your ticket up to 60 minutes before departure at any ADO ticket office. You must present the original ticket and an official ID matching the ticketholder's name. Refunds are issued as Saldo Max credit, not back to your original payment method. Advance-purchase discounted tickets are more restrictive and generally non-refundable. If you don't know your new date, you can request an open ticket for the same route to rebook later.
Is there a flexible ticket option?
ADO's standard full-price tickets allow exchanges up to 60 minutes before departure at any ticket window. Discounted advance-purchase tickets are typically non-exchangeable and non-refundable.
Does the bus make stops along the way?
ADO first-class and premium services from TAPO to Puebla run as direct, non-stop routes. Some economy-class buses (such as AU) may make a brief stop along the way. If you're departing from the Airport, the bus may stop at Paseo Destino before continuing to CAPU or vice versa — check your ticket for the exact routing.
How much luggage can I bring?
Each passenger can take up to 25 kg of checked baggage free of charge. Your bags are stored in a locked compartment under the bus, and you receive a claim tag to retrieve them upon arrival. You can also carry one carry-on bag at no additional cost. For a day trip to Puebla, most travelers just bring a backpack onboard — no need to check anything.
What amenities are on the bus?
ADO first-class buses on this route feature reclining seats, air conditioning, onboard entertainment, electrical outlets, USB charging ports, and an onboard restroom. For a ride of just two hours, that's more than enough comfort. If you want to upgrade, ADO Platino offers wide leather seats, a complimentary beverage, and access to the exclusive Platino lounge at TAPO.
Can I book my ticket in English?
Yes! At ADO International we offer an ADO booking experience in many different languages, adapting to the needs of travelers, visitors, and passengers from all over the world. Digital boarding passes are sent by email — no need to print.
Do I need an ID to board?
Yes. Carry a valid government-issued photo ID (passport for international travelers, INE for Mexican citizens) that matches the name on your ticket. While ID checks aren't always enforced on domestic routes, it's required for cancellations, exchanges, and occasionally at boarding.
Is the Mexico City to Puebla bus safe?
ADO operates modern buses equipped with GPS tracking, professional certified drivers, and safety features including three-point seatbelts on premium services. The route runs on the MEX-150D, a well-maintained toll highway. ADO is consistently rated as one of the safest bus operators in Mexico, and Mexico City–Puebla is one of the busiest and most well-traveled corridors in the entire country — buses run around the clock with hundreds of departures daily.
Can I travel with children?
Children under 5 years old travel free if sharing a seat with an accompanying adult. Children over 5 require their own ticket. Unaccompanied minors under 18 are generally not permitted without an authorized adult. At just two hours, this is one of the easiest rides in Mexico for families — short enough that kids stay entertained, and you'll be exploring Puebla's colorful streets before they even get restless.
