The journey from Mérida to Valladolid
West of Valladolid the toll Highway 180D runs across the Yucatán plain to Kantunil, passing the exit and toll booth near Pisté and Chichén Itzá and a single service area west of Valladolid. From Kantunil the road continues into Mérida. The free Highway 180 links a string of towns, including Pisté, Libre Unión, Kantunil and Hoctún, through a landscape of low forest, old henequen haciendas and village churches.
In Valladolid buses leave from the ADO station on Calle 39 at Calle 46. In Mérida they arrive at the central TAME terminal on Calle 69 or, on some services, at the Paseo 60 terminal north of the historic centre near Paseo de Montejo.

Travellers leave Mérida for Valladolid to be close to eastern Yucatán's big sights: Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam and a dense cluster of cenotes including Zací in town, X'keken and Samula at Dzitnup, and Suytun. The town's pastel streets, the Calzada de los Frailes and the Convent of San Bernardino make it a calm place to stay for a few nights.
Tips for the Mérida–Valladolid bus
Tip 1
From Mérida, choose the TAME terminal if you are staying near the main square, or Paseo 60 if your hotel is in the north of the city.
Tip 2
Colectivo vans to Valladolid also leave from Calle 32 in Mérida, but they are slower and carry little luggage; the ADO coach is the comfortable option with bags.
Tip 3
In Valladolid, Uber and DiDi were not available as of 2024; agree taxi fares before you set off.
Tip 4
Plan Chichén Itzá as a day trip from Valladolid by colectivo rather than with luggage on a through bus.
Other ways to travel
The Tren Maya runs between Mérida-Teya, reached from the centre by the IE-TRAM electric bus from Paseo 60 or by taxi, and Valladolid station on the edge of town; colectivo vans are a budget option. The ADO bus wins on centre-to-centre convenience and choice of times.
